SSC MTS Preparation Tips 2026 - How to Crack in 60 Days

The SSC MTS exam is a bit tough, but it is very competitive - lakhs of 10th pass candidates apply every year. With the right strategy, you can clear it in 60 days of focused preparation.
    • Step 1: Understand the syllabus and exam pattern
Print and have the syllabus on hand. Be clear about the topics of Sessions 1 & 2. By carefully reading the exam pattern table (particularly the negative marking rules):
    • Step 2: Start with the basics
The question level is basic as the exam is for 10th pass students. Use NCERT books (Class 6–10) for Maths and GA. Establish strong fundamentals, do not use shortcuts.
    • Step 3: Session 1 daily practice
Maths and Reasoning should be practised daily. 30 - 40 questions a day will make a tremendous improvement in 3 - 4 weeks. Be aware about time management: In Session 1, there is no negative marking, so try answering all 40 questions.
    • Step 4: Current affairs every day
Read current affairs for 20–25 minutes daily. The last 4–6 months of current events are most important for exam success
    • Step 5: Weekly full-length mock tests
Go for a full-length Mock Test each Saturday/Sunday. Follow a time limit - 45 minutes each session. Review incorrect answers for 1 hour following the test.
    • Step 6: Previous year papers
Solve the previous year's question papers. It will tell you what sorts of questions, how many times specific questions repeat for specific topics and the actual level of difficulty.
