    What's Inside CEN 02/2026

Detailed CEN 02/2026 is divided into four main annexures of qualification, vacancy distribution, reservation and fee rules.
    • Annexure A: Educational qualification and medical standard (A-3/B-1/B-2/C-1) for each trade post-wise.
    • Annexure B: Vacancy distribution RRB-wise and zone-wise including production units.
    • Annexure C: Reservation break-up community-wise (UR/SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS).
    • Annexure D: Application fee, refund conditions and certificate formats.

    RRB Technician Eligibility

Candidates should be between 18 and 33 years of age for Technician Grade I Signal or between 18 and 30 years of age for Technician Grade III as on 1st July 2026 with B.Sc/ Diploma/ Engineering for Grade I Signal or Class 10+ ITI for Grade III.
    • Technician Grade I Signal Age 18 – 33 years B.Sc / 3 year Diploma / Engineering Degree in Electronics / Electrical / CS / IT or Instrumentation.
    • Technician Grade III: Age 18-30 years; Class 10th pass + ITI (NCVT/SCVT) or CCAA in the relevant trade.

PwBD and Ex-Servicemen: Specific Notification Provisions (Annexure-Level)

The notification has a Parameter Table at Annexure A, which lays down for each of the notified post categories, three things, namely the educational / technical qualification, the medical fitness standard required and whether the post is identified as suitable for PwBD and if so, for which type of disability. Annexure B provides the category and post wise distribution of vacancies including the reserved seats for PwBD and Ex-SM.

    PwBD Provisions in RRB Technician

PwBD reservation in RRB Technician is not vertical but horizontal. This implies PwBD seats are carved out within each vertical community category (UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS) and not as a separate vertical column. The total vacancy figures in Annexure B include PwBD vacancies, they are not additional seats over and above the total.

    Suitability Identification (Annexure A)

Not all Technician categories or positions are suitable for all types of disability. CEN 02/2026 Annexure A lists the disabilities suitable for post by post basis. The four benchmark categories of disability used are
    • LD – Locomotor Disability (including Cerebral Plasy)
    • VI – Visual Impairment (Low Vision / Blindness)
    • HH - Deaf/Hard of Hearing
    • OA / OL / BL / OAL / LC / Dw / AAV - sub-categories of disability of locomotors
PwBD candidate can apply for a post even if there are no vacancies earmarked for PwBDs for that post, provided the post is identified as suitable for their type of disability in Annexure A. Such cases will still be entitled to age relaxation and fee exemption.

    Backlog Vacancies - Special Rule

Where backlog PwBD vacancies are shown in the vacancy table (marked separately, without indication of community), the following priority applies for filling them:
    • First: PwBD candidates belonging to the specific type of disability for which the backlog is created.
    • If not available: Candidates with PwBD of other disabilities for which the post is also identified suitable.
    • Not available if: Regular (non-PwBD) candidates to that extent.
Regular (Non-backlog) PwBD vacancies left unfilled due to non-availability of suitable PwBD candidates are not filled from Non-PwBD candidates - they lapse as shortfall for this notification cycle .

Scribe / Compensatory Time - PwBD Candidates

PwBD candidates who have a disability of 40% or more are eligible to use the facility of a scribe in the CBT in case of writing difficulty. Candidates who will use the services of a scribe should register their scribe details in the application portal during the Scribe Registration window (dates mentioned in the notification / corrigendum). The scribe should also meet the prescribed eligibility norms. Compensatory time is provided at a rate of 20 minutes for each hour of exam time.

    PwBD Shortlisting Ratio for DV

However, unlike the general 1:1 shortlisting ratio for DV, PwBD candidates may be shortlisted in a higher ratio if RRB deems it necessary to fill the reserved vacancies for PwBD - this is at the discretion of RRB as mentioned in Annexure B conditions.

    Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) Provisions

Ex-Serviceman reservation, like that of PwBD, is horizontal, covering all vertical community categories.ExSM vacancies are included in the total vacancy figures shown in Annexure B, not additional to them.

Eligibility for Posts with No ExSM Reservation

Ex-Servicemen can apply for non-ExSM-reserved posts in any community category. In these cases:
    • They will be eligible for age relaxation applicable to ExSM.
    • They maintain the fee exemption applicable to ExSM.
    • They are considered against the merit of their own community (UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) and do not displace ExSM vacancies.

    Discharge Certificate Requirement at DV

Ex-Servicemen are required to produce their Discharge Book / Certificate at the time of Document Verification. RRBs can compute the age relaxation (actual age minus service period equals the ‘notional age’ for eligibility check against age limit) from the certificate containing service particulars. Candidates who are unable to produce the original Discharge Book will not be given ExSM relaxation at DV.
    CategoryAge RelaxationFee
SC / ST+5 yearsExempt (₹250 refundable after CBT)
