- Initial Posting: Generally in the State or Zone of the allotted bank depending on vacancies.
- Rural Posting: Rural or semi-urban postings are common especially for AFO & IT Officer roles.
- Transfer Policy: Transfer policy of respective bank after probation.
- Posting Location: The particular branch will be decided as per the operational requirement of the bank at the time of joining.
Probation Period
Newly appointed IBPS SO officers usually serve a probationary period of approximately one year before being confirmed in service. In some cases, the IBPS probation period can be extended in keeping with the concerned bank’s HR policy on the basis of training performance and initial posting.
Service Bond
Some of the participating banks may ask the new recruits to sign a service bond or an undertaking to serve minimum number of years particularly if bank-sponsored training or infrastructure are provided. Now the terms of the bond, and if there is a bond, will depend on the bank you are allotted to, so do read the offer or appointment letter carefully before joining.
Training After Joining
Most banks have a formal induction and training programme before officers take full charge on joining.
- Induction: A brief orientation programme on the history, values, systems and code of conduct of the bank.
- Classroom training: Domain specific classroom sessions in the bank’s training college. The sessions include basics of banking and specialist subject knowledge.
- Branch training: On-the-job training in a branch or department under supervision to become familiar with practical banking operations before independent postings.
Working Hours and Leave Policy
The officers generally follow the normal public sector bank office timings of around 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on working days with alternate Saturdays off and a mix of casual, privilege, sick and maternity leaves available as per the bank rules.
Result, Score Card and Provisional Allotment
IBPS SO Result, Score Card and Provisional Allotment are published separately on the official IBPS website. Candidates can check their qualifying status, download their scorecard and view final bank allotment using their login credentials.
Reserve List and Waiting List
Besides the main list of selected candidates for each post, IBPS usually maintains a reserve list, which is sometimes called as a waiting list. The reserve list is maintained generally to the extent of about 20 percent of the vacancies under each category for each post, subject to availability of candidates and being on reserve list does not guarantee provisional allotment.
- What it is: A reserve list is a list of candidates, ranked in order of merit, just below the main selection cut off point, and kept ready in case some of the selected candidates do not join, or are found ineligible later.
- When released: The reserve list is usually released at the same time as, or just after the final result and provisional allotment.
- Who gets selected: Candidates in reserve list are offered post only when vacancies arise due to non-joining, resignation before joining, etc. in strict order of merit, within the validity period decided by IBPS.
